Young Cape Coons

The local Coon or Minstrel Team stepped briskly into the neighbourhood to bid farewell to 2011 and to greet 2012. For the next few weeks these children, youths and adults will march, fill the street with music and dance and compete in the championships. They are the celebration of a people's capacity to survive slavery with goodwill and today, to survive the Townships.

Street Action

 

After a day of merry making and loud music there was a quarrel and a fight.An older woman was most annoyed at the attention given and received between her husband and a younger woman. The crowd moved down the road and back up as the two women fought; mostly with the younger one trying to escape and the older one pursuing her with all the neighbours and friends in tow. We had to call the police to break it up; and again as the young woman's mother laid into her. On the whole I would have liked  the older woman and her family dealt with because they are into blasting the street with loud music drawing all the youth and kids into the streets and front gardens for what amounts to a day long party... and then THEY don't like the consequences!

Taxi World

 

This is a taxi rank at a Transport Interchange Site. To the left is the station and to the right are the buses.

Unexpectedly there was also a horse-and-cart the other day.

Moon Series 2

 

The moon emerged from the wispy ribbon cloud quickly.

The blustering wind helped.

Full moon and complete equinox on Saturday 10 December.

We will not be able to see the amazing equinox in South Africa.

Baden Powell Drive- Strandfontein

 

Arum Lilies and various fynbos species grow here.  The beach ahead is part of Strandfontein. To the right will be the turn to Mitchells Plain. This is a protected area but a lot of dumping occurs from Khayelitsha  and Mitchells Plain and probably from other areas too.

TODAY"S BREAD

 

These boy's have been practicing their music for a year. They use sticks and old paint tins and have begun to add their own original dance to their little show. Looking in their plastic tub, they shouted excitedly : "We have R5.00s  too!" as they spotted the larger coin amongst the R2.00,  50c and 20c pieces.

Reminded!

There was a mail tonight. I was invited by a friend to contribute to this blog!
I was effectively REMINDED that once upon a time I started to blog here.

I was clearly in the mood to blog about women and gender and creativity since I chose to be the EVE Blog:)

I might well still do that but even if I did not, or when I do not, my views and approach to topics will always inherently reflect a woman's perspective:)

I will forever remain REMINDED of this, the EVE Blog.

Let me now go an think carefully about some content for this blog; perhaps a few photos...
My profile also begs for some attention:)

It will be interesting to see if said friend, having called me to this blog, will visit soon:)
